Tamhini Ghat Road & Secret Waterfalls
Located around 40 kms from Pune, 50 km from Lonavala and 130 kms from Mumbai -Tamhini Ghat is a mountain passage situated on the crest of the Sahyadri mountain ranges. The Ghat section starts from Mulshi Lake and ends at the Orchard Café Sanaswadi covering a total distance of 44 kms. Its called the ‘Switzerland’ of Maharashtra.
From Mumbai – If you are coming from Mumbai, take the Rasayani road beyond Panvel – Imagica Theme Park – Pali –Vile route. You can ride all the way up to Mulshi and plan a return journey from there as well.
From Pune – Take the Mulshi Road which starts after the Pirangut Village. Its takes 20 km drive to reach the beautiful Mulshi Lake. The Tamhini Ghat road begins here and stretches up to the Orchard Café in Sanaswadi. From the Café, you can begin with the return journey.
In the monsoons, this place transforms into a green velvety carpet with many waterfalls all along the way. You have to travel here by a hired or private car or taxi. One can spend an entire day here by trekking through the dense forest in search of the start point of a waterfall. Do not miss exploring Palase and 2 other secret waterfalls midway on this ghat road. Take a stopover at Hotel Vithal Kamat for snacks and meals. Devkund Waterfall and Andharban Jungle trek can be explored after this place.
The only drawback is that this place is relatively deserted and a non-commercial area. So you may not find the luxury of tapris, big restaurants .etc.
